I bought one of these locally to bring some much-needed network storage to my home office, where I have a number of computers. Unfortunately, this product did nothing but frustrate and disappoint. I loaded it up and used it for a month or two, experiencing occasional failures where it would disappear from the network or lose data. Finally it stopped working all together, and I was faced with the problem that the hard drive was built-in and not accessible by the user. That meant that I would have to return the unit along with all the data on the drive, and in my case that included sensitive materials for projects in development.
To sum up, I would strongly recommend getting a different brand of NAS, and be sure it's one that has user-accessible hard drives so that you can swap out a bad one yourself or at least securely wipe the drive before returning it for service. I had to tear apart my unit (I'll use the hard drive in something else) and toss it. I ended up replacing it with a second generation Pogoplug Multimedia Sharing Device which is working well for me so far.
